Health Insurance Advice and Opinions Needed

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is having a good day. I am having a dilemma with health insurance coverage. For those of you who are not working what type of insurance do you have? I lost my job in July and am currently on COBRA which my fiance is paying for me ($551 a month). I am feeling very guilty and depressed that he has to pay so much money for this insurance. I don't qualify for Medicaid because my income is over the required amount.

I applied for the Affordable Care Act and I don't know what the heck happened because they said I don't qualify for the tax credit. I am confused as to whether they are considering only my income or with my daughters income, which still puts us below their income chart. I'm sorry if I am not making any sense but the more upset I get, the more my FibroFog kicks in. Whenever I call the 1-800# I get a total moron on the other end who does not know what the hell they are talking about and are just reading from a script. The health plans they are offering are more money than what my COBRA is except for one plan which is a little over $400 and totally a bare bone policy.

I know alot of people are choosing not to have insurance and just pay the fine which is probably less than what they are charging for these health plans. This ACA is a total joke, in my opinion.

What is everyone doing for health coverage if not covered by your employer??

Thanks

HI LINDA I HAVE MEDICARE/MEDICAID BECAUSE IM ON DISABILITY.I WAS AWARDED THEM IN AUGUST 2012.I DIDNT WANT TO GO ON DISABILITY I LOVED MY JOB SO MUCH.IT WAS A VERY PHYSICALLY DEMANDING ONE AND COULDNT CONTINUE.I WISH I COULD. HAVE CONTINUED.I LOVED BEING WITH THE RESIDENTS AND STAFF.I DIDNT WANT TO STOP.IM NOT SURE WHAT YOU SHOULD DO.INSTEAD OF CALLING THE 800 NUMBER ID TALK TO A NAVIGATOR IN PERSON.CALL YOUR LOCAL HEALTH DEPARTMENT THEYLL KNOW WHO YOU SHOULD TALK TO.I WISH YOU LUCK IN FINDING WHAT YOU NEED WHAT WE ALL NEED HEALTH INSURANCE.YOURE IN MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS.

I have a clinic that lets you pay on a sliding scale. I qualified for 90% with the only income being my hubby's unemployment. I'm like you...guess I'll pay the fine but that's funny too cuz it'll be like the proverbial blood out of a turnip .

The clinic is a lifesaver for me they have lab, x-ray, cardiac rehab, physical therapy, and visiting specialists ie neurologists, gastro docs, and specialty clinics for doppler ultrasound and the such.

I hope you can find something like mine. I hope you'll be sweet to yourself and quit beating yourself up about the insurance.

We're surely not the only ones in this predicament and I've heard more than once how this whole thing is a cluster in DC so I doubt their going to hunt us down. lol

Sorry I couldn't be of more help. Good question!

Always~Laurel

Hi Linda, I so understand what your going through , I went on disability a year and a half ago & my cobra has cost me $500. A month and its about to run out, they only alow me a certain amt of time to pick it up, even though I am paying the premium that the employer would pay… What kinda crap is that,
So now what, I make to much to qualify for Medicaid , my only hope is if I get approved for SSDI with in 3 months of loosing my cobra they alow me to continue for an additional year… Also once you qualify for SSDI you can also get Medicare . I have not even looked into this whole new government crap… Which I’m sure will just make me sick .
It’s so unfair…
I didn’t choose to get sick , I also loved my job & prob stayed in it longer than I should have & now I have to worry & wonder how I’m going to afford ins .
My advice… Keep the cobra as long as you can , my biggest fear is that my pain dr won’t keep me as a PT if I have gov insurance … I do worry how I will afford the cobra if my long term disability gets cut, which they say will happen this summer
I hope the best for you
Please let me know if you find anything out that will help us , I will do the same
Hugs & blessings
