Has anyone tried low dose Naltrexone?

Hi,

I'm new to this forum. I was diagnosed over a year ago. Currently I take Wellbutrin, Savella, Klonopin and Neurontin. I am off opiods, as the severe pain that was part of what led me to the diagnosis has resided. I do take daily Tylenol and Aleve for allover burning pain, and muscle and joint pain, and for headaches. It seems like Savella and an increase in my Neurontin dose has helped the muscle pain.

Anyhow, yesterday I started my first dose of LDN (low dose naltrexone). It's supposed to help many conditions, including Fibro, and be good for the immune system. But I awoke with a terrible headache! I'm hoping this won't last because these have been a real problem for me. I have read a lot of good things about this medication and wonder if anyone else with Fibro has tried it. Don't get it confused with the higher dose which is used to get people off of alcohol or narcotics. It is used off-label and has to be compounded.

Thanks for any input you may have!

Nikki

Hi Nikki, how is it going with the naltrexone ?? I couldn’t find anything that talks about this for fibro, I have heard of taking it for fibro, but just not familiar with how it works.
Hopefully more will give some imput about on this & your doing well on it !

Hi Dee,

It's day 3 and I'm not sure yet. The side effect I read about, insomnia, has been a problem. It's not supposed to last though. I am going to try taking it earlier in the day, and work up to night time, when it is supposed to have the most benefit. Yesterday I was in a very good mood and had some energy. But when I took the naltrexone at night it messed with my sleep.

There are some good websites with info: lowdosenaltrexone.org is one. There's something about it in a very low dose that affects the immune system, and somehow can lower the amount of cytokines in our bodies. I think that's it-I should find those other sites and post them up. I also read an article about it in a Fibro subscription.

Thanks for checking in.

Hugs and blessings to you!
